The Rooks

The Rooks

Every once in a while it’s good to get away from my sister and her band of merry snowboarders. I love riding with them, but I have a tendency to want to race Soren down the mountain. This is a bad thing, he is a better boarder and I should not be trying to race anything on a board.

In comes the rooks! Floyd has been riding for all of 2 and half years(though he is quite good for only going about 15 times total), Will hasn’t rode in 5 years, and Q, well this was his second time ever. I got to ride nice and slow, take a bunch of pics, enjoy the company of my socially retarded friends. Ohhh…. and cupcakes!

Floyd’s Birthday happened to land on our pool league night. I thought it would be appropriate to buy some party hats, party beads,  and buy birthday boy a pink “happy birthday” tiara.

As always, we got drunk as can be, and Floyd and I got into a pee pee smacking contest, in which I lost, and had to take a break.

Shortly after loosing a couple rounds of pool to Pet and Floyd (I ended up owing a couple dinners of Pho) we headed home. Though I don’t remember leaving, the car ride, or getting home. This next pic, I don’t remember at all.

The night was a success. We acted a fool. Embarrassed one of our waitresses, and  I cant remember 2 hours of the night. I don’t think you can ask for anything more than that.

I should start off by saying that my BFF Floyd has a very acute imagination. While watching a video on MTV he decided that we needed colored suits.

I’m sure the look on your face right now is about the one I got. “What do you mean colored suits?” is what I asked and he came back with showing me hello greenman. I laughed and thought it would be silly, clearly he was serious. So we bought two of them. One green, and one orange.

We had to wear our suits backwards only because, well, you would have to take it off completely to pee if you didn’t. The rest of the night was standard fair of drunken debatchery. I think some 151 was consumed. DSC00414

And some beer pong was played.

Over all the night had exactly what you would expect from a party with this much alcohol. I cleaned up some puke with a snow shovel. I saw some dude get punched in the face with a cap gun. We had multiple scantily clad women, several playboy bunnies. All in all, it was a good night.

In what has become our weekly ritual, Hyon, Floyd and I rode to the top of lookout mountain and as usual we timed ourselves.

The more I do this ride the more fun I have doing it.

Lap Swimming Etiquette 101

Posted on 23. Jul, 2009 by Derrick.

I got to the pool early yesterday to hit a short hard 750m swim. When I got there, all the lanes were full. I looked at the lane markings and absolutely NO ONE was following the “slow lap” “medium lap” and “fast lap” signs. To further my frustration, no one was circle lap swimming either, which was also clearly posted.

I don’t know if it was because it was predominantly older folks, and they simply didn’t give a shit, or all of theme were illiterate. I do know that it was a cluster fuck of people swimming everything from doggy paddle to brest stroke. So I picked what looked like the safest lane with the two most experienced looking swimmers.

I hopped in the lane and talked to the first guy and he said that he had no problem with me joining their lane. I asked him if it would be OK if we swam with a circle lap, and he said that would be fine, but the other guy in that lane had been sticking to one side. I then waited for the other gentleman to join us at the end of the pool. When I asked him if we could “circle lap swim” he looked at me with an odd look. I then drew a circle with my finger in the water indicating a clockwise lap and he simply stated “yeah, I’m not stupid, i know what a circle is”. I thought to myself, well you may know your shapes but your a fuckin idiot because you cant read for shit. He then jumped out and said “I’m done anyways”. Well then, why the hell did you take the time to be an asshole?

I wish he had stayed in the pool, I would liked to have peed right in front of him just for him to swim through it. I did see him later mackin on some grandma bun, and I wanted to walk up to her and say “This guy has a tiny dick” and walk off. Old fuckers like that annoy me.

So later that day I decided to take Floyd and Hyon up lookout mountain for some hill climbing on our bikes. I love that ride late at night. Perfect temperature, and its fun as shit to bomb down the mountain roads with just a bike light. We all timed ourselves on the way up. Hyon made it up in 33 minutes, I made it up in 37, and Floyd took 43 minutes.

Good fun, tonight is running night with Guinness and Summer.

lazy ass!

While I have friends that are either doing an Iron man or riding 150 miles for MS research I’ve been doing jack squat.

Since Summer’s Mom came into town, I’ve literally done nothing. 2 weeks of being a complete lazy ass. Well, not complete. Floyd and I decided on good authority to change the way we swim.

So for the last week and a half I’ve spent 8 hours re-training my body to be more efficient and smooth in the water using techniques taught by Total Immersion.  It is a totally amazing way to swim and after about a week of practice I feel like I’m gliding in the water and not fighting it. Before I would feel like I just blew up an air mattress without stopping for breath. I got a lightheaded fuzziness that makes you feel like a bobble head. Now, I’m not winded at all after 250 meters of swimming. If anyone is ever looking to do long distance swimming, try total immersion. It has helped both Floyd and I to become better swimmers. Hopefully taking our 1/2 mile swim down to under 20 minutes.

I’ve decided to focus completely on swimming and running for the next month and a half then re-introduce biking. I’ve got to master my techniques (I know it will take years, but I’ve got 3 months).
