The Golden Dirty Thirty (Saturday May8th)
Posted on 04. May, 2010 by Derrick.

This party is to celebrate Derrick’s and Annika’s golden birthdays. Derrick will be 30 on the 30th and Annika will be 27 on the 27th.
The party is “Dress like a catholic school girl”. It is not mandatory, but your hosts Floyd, Derrick, and Will will be dressed up in skirts. Please dress up, because if you don’t, you’ll make us look like idiots.
As always, the party is at our house aka “the man cave”. If you have never been to my house, you can RSVP on our Facebook events page or just comment at the bottom of the page and I’ll email you our address (make sure to fill in your email when you do comment)
We will have several good beers on tap. Since Sierra Nevada is turning 30 this year, and so am I, we are going with a beer theme. Sierra Nevada Summerfest, and Sierra Nevada’s “Old ale”. Old ale is so rare that only 35 people have reviewed it on Ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com (Don’t ask me how I got it, cause if I told you, I’d have to kill you). I’ll even get a 1/4 barrel of Coors light to satisfy the non craft beer idiots (I mean that in the nicest way)

Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales, Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great summertime treat.
Old Ale is a blend of Imperial Stout aged eleven-months in oak bourbon barrels, and our malty Scotch Ale. This black beer has an intense aroma of roasted malt with pronounced vanilla and toasted coconut notes from wood aging. The flavor is smooth and bittersweet, with hints of caramel, toffee, and mocha. This full-bodied beer is filled with deep, rich and warming flavors.

Do you remember that?

Floyd’s Birthday happened to land on our pool league night. I thought it would be appropriate to buy some party hats, party beads, and buy birthday boy a pink “happy birthday” tiara.

As always, we got drunk as can be, and Floyd and I got into a pee pee smacking contest, in which I lost, and had to take a break.

Shortly after loosing a couple rounds of pool to Pet and Floyd (I ended up owing a couple dinners of Pho) we headed home. Though I don’t remember leaving, the car ride, or getting home. This next pic, I don’t remember at all.

or this one

The night was a success. We acted a fool. Embarrassed one of our waitresses, and I cant remember 2 hours of the night. I don’t think you can ask for anything more than that.

The Un-Birthday

Ooohh god, I’m 29. So we started at old Chicago and ended our night at Electric Cowboy. Thanks to Summer and Floyd for getting me matching birthday gifts. A flask from Summer with my favorite saying on it, and some whiskey from Floyd to go in it!
ps, myspace pose!
Summer always looks better in pics than I do, but she always is cuter than I am anyways.
I’ve known Floyd for almost half of my life, and of all those years we have “danced” at various clubs. Sometimes without our clothes. Though he is a better dancer than I am, we have always just laughed and had a good time. Summer on the other hand cant dance to save her freaking life.
Summer likes the clubs out here because she can “wear tennys”. In phoenix we wouldn’t have been let in the front door, or would have been stared at by the patrons for not trying to fit in. Its hard to explain without showing you the difference between the cultures. The eye candy is better, but the people are way way more fake, inside and out.
When Summer and Floyd get drunk, odd things happen. Food fights are typical. This night was no different in that an orange was ammunition. Summer tried to huck orange while Floyd simply just squeezed OJ in Summers hair. Good times
Thanks to the folks that came out. Theresa and Hyon, Floyd, Silent Bob(Marco), and Summer. I normally don’t celebrate my birthday, but it was fun.

I’m not old, I’m not young either. I’m not old enough to be truly considered a full member of decent society, but old enough that hangovers last longer than just a day.
I think that society still treats the under 30′s as something like when you see a child stand for the first time. We all know how to do it, but it’s cute to see someone else do it for the first time. Unfortunately, being young also predisposes you to being “unwise” in the eyes of the people with power.
I’ve spent most of my 20′s having fun and playing hard. Weather it was the lows of divorce, or the highs of finding new love, I’ve had a blessed 9 years. But I’m ready to move on. I’m done with my 20′s.
I don’t want to be an ‘old soul’. As most people know I’ve not acted my age since turning 18. That being said, most folks believe that people in their 20′s are just responsible enough to keep a job but for whatever reason we can’t have “carriers” yet. That’s fine for when you are 23 and looking at the better years coming, but when you are on the back end, you want to be taken seriously.
I may know much more than someone else but if they have some gray in their hair, they are automatically perceived as more knowledgeable. Many people ask my advice on several topics. Topics that I’ve excelled in life, but at times those topics haven’t led to any personal advancement.
I’m ready to put my 20′s behind me and get on to my 30′s…..
