The Rooks
Posted on 20. Dec, 2009 by Derrick.
Every once in a while it’s good to get away from my sister and her band of merry snowboarders. I love riding with them, but I have a tendency to want to race Soren down the mountain. This is a bad thing, he is a better boarder and I should not be trying to race anything on a board.
In comes the rooks! Floyd has been riding for all of 2 and half years(though he is quite good for only going about 15 times total), Will hasn’t rode in 5 years, and Q, well this was his second time ever. I got to ride nice and slow, take a bunch of pics, enjoy the company of my socially retarded friends. Ohhh…. and cupcakes!

Last but not least…. The video!

Day 5, where the Bongmonters rome.

This was my 5th day up boarding, 2 more times and my “colorado pass” has been paid for. I started my day early with a 5:30am wake up call. I knew I was going to get 5 inches of the fresh stuff.
It was an odd day. Forcasted to have 4 inches of snow, but we had partly cloudy sky’s.

After a short while the “Krew” arived and we sang “On a boat m’er f’er”

All in all, a good day.

Lake Reveal

Fuck you youtube. Yeah that’s right! I’ve re-made this damn video 3 times with different audio tracks because youtube rejected them all. I finally just made my own damn flash video.
Anyways. Here is some pond skimming on lake reveal in A-basin. Lots of good crashes!
Edit (September 11th) I found Vimeo and think I’ll use that from now on.

Last call for alcohol

Last Sunday was the absolutely last day of Skiing/Snowboarding this year. We were hoping for atleast one good sunny sping ski day and today would have been no different than the previous 3 months. Once again it was gloomy and a chance of thunder showers.
To chear our mood up. We all decided to dress up for the last day of the year. Annika was a super hero. Kit, ze german raver. Soren, the camera guy. Summer, little Bo Peep and I just wore yeti pants.

All in total, Summer was able to get 12 days in this year. Even after taking December, January, and February off. I was able to get 15 days more and for the first time in 10 years made it more than 5 times in one season. Living in the AZ doesn’t leave you with to many ski days.
Just to prove that we didn’t waste a day on just Snowboarding. We took Guinness Mountainbiking, and tried a trail from Bakerville to Loveland pass. It was moderate but at about mile 3 it started to snow??

Blame it on the rain!
Posted on 27. May, 2009 by Derrick.
Memorial day weekend is traditionally our “backpack” weekend. In years past we have always made it out to a good location. I had spent the previous weeks picking out a spot in Indian peaks wilderness. We were going to Diamond lake and Jasper lake for the short incline and beautiful location.
Colorado weather would not allow it! In the immortal words of Gandalf, YOU SHALL NOT PASS. I called the forest ranger two days before our trip began and he told me that the night before dumped 6 inches of snow, and to bring snow shoes if we were going. He also said to bring plenty of dry clothes because it was all going to be melting and it could get “slushy”, his words, not mine.
If anything I’ve learned from three years with Summer, it is to be honest about what the conditions were going to be. So I decided to can the backpacking.
We decided in our infinite wisdom to go snowboarding instead. BRILIANT! It rained, sleeted, rained, hailed, rained, sun-shined, rained, snowed and rained again. I hadn’t been on the slopes with this much rain since Oregon.
This happens to be when it was hailing, notice the guy running in the bottom right.
Yup it was wet out, we started out the day in T-shirts and hoodies, but ended the day in rain shells.
We did actualy have a good time. Summer found it funny that we were snow boarding in such conditions, but was glad we weren’t sitting in a tent somewhere.

ps. I leave you with a lyrical exert from Milli Vanilli
You can blame it on the rain
Cos the rain don’t mind
And the rain don’t care
You got to blame it on something
(Blame it on the rain)
(Blame it on the stars)
Whatever you do don’t put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah, yeah
You can blame it on the rain
Girl
Ooh, ooh (ooh)
Girl
I can’t, I can’t. I can’t, can’t stand the rain
I can’t, I can’t. I can’t, can’t stand the rain

I Love you…
Posted on 10. May, 2009 by Derrick.
Summer and I have been together now for 3 years. We have been dating since April 24th 2006. We have had more good times than not. From Arizona to Colorado, from Tennessee to California, from Mexico to Belize, and from shining sea to mountain tops.
It took me 2 days to talk her into going out. 4 days to sleep with me (I begged, really really begged). 6 months for me to say “I love you” and she answered “awww thats really sweet”. 7 months for us to get a puppy. A year to move in together. Two and a half years to move to Colorado. She has finally, after 3 years, talked about KIDS! Her clock is ticking…..
Here is some pics from our most recent day doing stuff
Summer totally dropped off the lift last weekend and so she took it easy and drank at the midmountain lodge
A couple of days before we did yoga together and our worst pose was warrior pose two. After about 45 minutes, we were done, DONE. But our favorite pose was the warrior two pose.
Summer told me about how people had cans of beer in their back pocket, and she told me to just bring some beer and put it in my pocket. I didn’t believe her until half way down the run a came across a random beer can. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RUN! How fun is that?! Summer calls them back pocket beers.
Here is a video of our whiles. I highly recommend watching.
I love you Summer
